[Info] What registry entries are used for Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Virtuozzo Update Service (VUS) settings?

Last Updated: Jul 24, 2016 07:57PM UTC

As part of the Parallels Virtuozzo Containers (PVC) installation, the following registry key and values are set to point our servers only to where approved Microsoft Updates are available:

Starting from Parallels Virtuozzo Containers 4.0, it is possible to configure VUS (Virtuozzo Update Service, which provides with the same functionality as WSUS, but for PVC updates).

To achieve it, stop Parallels Virtuozzo Update Service first:

net stop vzupsvc

The following registry values should be changed:

Where {GUID} can be one of the following:

  • {46562BA0-B13A-40D5-97E2-41C43196D29B} for PVCfW updates

    Default value is http://vzwinupdate.parallels.com/vzwin/v4.6/updates.xml

  • {BD16A5A6-CCEB-4C4F-A5CC-0E2006FF4D29} for PMC updates

    Default value is http://vzwinupdate.parallels.com/vzmc/v4.0/updates.xml

  • {D46155BA-B3F4-4BB6-A421-FA4FB59F9186} for PVCfW Dispatcher updates

    Default value is http://vzwinupdate.parallels.com/vzdisp/v1.0/updates.xml

Start Virtuozzo Update Service:

net start vzupsvc

It can be configured through GUI as well. To do this, run the Virtuozzo Update Wizard and go to Proxy Settings.

Note: If a PVC server is a member of the Active Directory domain, it is strongly recommended that you configure group policies to exclude the server from applying the domain's WSUS settings.
