What hardware is Parallels Server Bare Metal compatible with?

Last Updated: Sep 08, 2016 12:30PM UTC

Parallels Server Bare Metal and Parallels Cloud Server use the Parallels Containers kernel, which is why it is safe to use the Parallels Containers Hardware Compatibility List.

There may be a situation where the Parallels Server Bare Metal installer does not contain drivers for a device, e.g., for RAID controller, and it makes Parallels Server Bare Metal installation impossible. Generally, Parallels Server Bare Metal includes the drivers from the corresponding CentOS/RHEL distribution, recompiled for the Parallels kernel.

Currently, the Parallels Server 4.0 Bare Metal installer contains drivers from the CentOS/RHEL 5.3 distribution. The Parallels Server Bare Metal 5.0 installer contains drivers from the CentOS/RHEL 6.1 distribution.
Parallels Cloud Server 6.0 is based on Cloud Linux 6.x distribution.

If your hardware requires a custom driver, it is possible to recompile vendor drivers for the Parallels kernel and create a driver disk to install Parallels Server Bare Metal.

This article describes the general procedure of driver disk creation:
111375 How to create driver disk for Parallels Server Bare Metal installation

NOTE: It will be necessary to recompile the driver for the newer kernel after any core update is installed. Otherwise, Parallels Server Bare Metal may fail to boot into the new kernel after installing the core updates.
